Recently a dear friend of mine lost a loved one quite suddenly. I knew that she and her family had received many frozen meals from friends in the wake of the death. Still I wanted to bring something to the family at the memorial service, which would be at their home. My friend's family owns a winery so wine seemed inappropriate and I never really want to bring cut flowers, which die quickly or a potted plant that they then need to tend to.

Unsure what to do I consulted Pinterest since one can find anything on there. Sure enough I found a great fair trade gift idea! Frozen homemade cookies with directions for preparation. This way my friend and her family could pop one or a dozen in the oven whenever they were in need of a cookie. I know that when I am sad sometimes I just need a cookie and homemade cookies are the best.

Here's the recipe that I used:
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) organic butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated Fair Trade sugar
- 3/4 cup packed Fair Trade brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I need to pick up more Fair Trade vanilla for future baking projects)
- 2 large organic cage free eggs
- 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) Fair Trade semi-sweet chocolate chips
- COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto plate and place in freezer.
- For my friend's note I wrote: preheat the oven and place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bak for 9 to 11 minute (possibly longer if they put them in frozen).
